Over the last year, the transgender community in India is slowly and steadily seeing rise in their social status and opportunities. A good example of this 33 year old transgender Devi who is competing against CM Jayalalitha to win the elections from the R K Nagar constituency.

It is quite interesting to note that Devi has nothing but admiration for Jayalalithaa, especially her self-confidence and resilience. However, she feels that as a political leader and legislator, she failed to fulfil the wishes of the people. This is the reason that she standing in the elections against the present CM who is contesting for a second time from the R K Nagar constituency.
As for Ms Devi, she is an active social worker and is contesting from actor and director Seeman’s party- Naam Tamizhar Katchi or NTK. Like Devi herself, the party is also contesting the election for the first time.
