Telangana Rashtra Samiti which enjoys majority in the state assembly has now targeted attaining absolute majority in council too by next March. TRS is hoping to increase its strength from the present five to 25 in the 40-member state legislative council. Seven sitting MLCs will be retiring in March, and the local bodies will be sending 13 MLCs.
TRS is confident of winning five of the seven retiring seats with its majority in the Assembly. The party is expecting all the 13 MLCs from Local Bodies as it enjoys majority in almost all the ZPTC, MPTCs, and municipalities across the state.
However there will be a contest between TDP+BJP, TRS and Congress for the two MLC seats from graduate constituencies which will be going to elections in February. All the parties are fielding strong candidates to bag the two MLC seats at any cost. However TRS will have a slight edge due to the advantage of being in power.
