The Telangana Labor Department has issued notices to Mythri Movie Makers, the producers of Irumudi, over a complaint regarding a minor girl’s participation in the film’s shooting and promotional activities.
The complaint was filed by C Mahesh Babu, founder-president of Jai Lok Satta (Social Justice Forum), alleging possible violations of child labour regulations.
The Joint Commissioner of Labour, Ranga Reddy Zone, has directed the production team to attend an inquiry on November 4 at 11 AM at Anjaiah Karmika Samkshema Bhavan in RTC X Roads. The producers can also send an authorised representative.
The department has sought clarification on whether permission was obtained from the District Magistrate and whether parental consent was secured. It has also asked the makers to submit details of the girl’s working hours, attendance records, educational arrangements and safety measures taken during the shoot.
Another key question concerns her remuneration. The department has asked whether 20 per cent of her payment was deposited in a fixed deposit in her name, as required under the relevant provisions.
The inquiry will also examine her participation in promotional events and whether the conversations and language used during these events had any impact on the minor girl’s dignity and safety.
The producers have been asked to submit all relevant documents during the inquiry. The department will examine the details before deciding on further action.
