The Andhra Pradesh government is planning the formation of new districts and Mandals, and there is also a discussion on changing their names. A cabinet sub-committee has been formed to collect public opinions, and it has already started the process.
While the report is yet to be submitted, fresh rumors suggest that Krishna district may be renamed after Vangaveeti Mohan Ranga. This move has sparked widespread debate and concerns across the state.
Earlier, during the YSRCP regime, there was a proposal to name a new district around Vijayawada after Ranga. The idea was revisited in 2022 during the formation of new districts but was eventually dropped. Now, the buzz is back, raising uncertainty.
Reports claim the district might be renamed as Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Krishna District or simply Vangaveeti District. Since both Kamma and Kapu communities are strong in Krishna district, the issue has gained political and social sensitivity.
The previous government already named a district after NTR, and supporters argue that Ranga also deserves similar recognition for community balance. However, many feel Krishna and Godavari rivers hold deep emotional and cultural value, and Krishna district has been part of people’s identity for decades.
Changing the name could trigger unrest and create unnecessary political and social issues. People believe the government must act wisely and curb these rumors before they grow further. Otherwise, it may cause disappointment to the Kapu community if the proposal does not go through.
