The concessionaire of Hyderabad Metro Rail Project, Larsen and Toubro (L&T) had submitted its initial proposal for the costs involved in the proposed changes to the project alignment. The report suggested the concessionaire will incur an extra cost of 2200 Crore for these changes which will have to be borne by the Telangana government.
They have even mentioned that these costs may further flare up too in execution. However it is said that Telangana government clarified that it can not afford such huge expense and asked the concessionaire to work out further on cutting down the expense.
It is known that the state government is insisting on realignment at three locations, including near the assembly building, Sultan Bazaar and Old City. The proposed realignment would result in an additional 3.5 km rail line and each kilometre would cost Rs 300 crore. Also, L&T has to dismantle over 21 pillars for this.
