Mindboggling Number of Indian Stranded in The United States

Mindboggling-Number-of-Indian-Stranded-in-The-United-StatesGovernment of India has suspended all inbound international passenger flights after March 22nd. Three days later, domestic carriers were grounded. The country remains in lockdown until May 17th, according to the latest announcement by the Government.

Even after that, there is no clarity if International flights will be allowed any sooner. Several Indians were stranded in various countries across the globe and are wanting to be evacuated. In the United States alone, over 2,100 Indians want to be evacuated.

This list includes senior citizens, pregnant women, travelers who have overstayed their tourist visas, students, and workers who have been furloughed and made jobless — including Indians who have lost their H1B work visas, for workers in specialty occupations.

As of April 27th, Government of India evacuated 2,468 Indians from countries severely affected by the virus, such as China, Iran, Italy and Japan — but the majority of those evacuations happened before the lockdown.
