Time to Return Home, Build Nation: PMO

Make in India call for NRIs

For decades, India witnessed brain drain as young professionals left seeking world-class facilities and global exposure. Many pursuing STEMS secured high-paying jobs abroad, especially in the US, which became the most popular destination for ambitious Indian talent.

Now times are shifting as India moves closer to becoming the world’s third largest economy. The global situation has also changed with the Ukraine-Russia war and the return of Donald Trump as US President bringing new challenges for India.

Trump’s tariffs on India and calls for the European Union to follow suit have angered many across the Indian diaspora. Nationalist sentiment is rising, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed that dependence on other nations is India’s biggest weakness.

In response to Trump’s threat, Modi urged citizens to embrace ‘Made in India’ products and services. PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, added that the government is encouraging overseas Indians to return and contribute to nation building.

The push for Make in India could become the new call for NRIs and Gen Z. With global uncertainties and India’s growing strength, the focus is shifting toward homecoming and building the nation together.
