Mrunal Thakur’s Telugu career has taken a bit of a turn. Two hits, two flops as a lead actress, and now Raaka has become the film that could decide what comes next for her in Telugu cinema.
Sita Ramam and Hi Nanna gave Mrunal Thakur a dream start. More importantly, both films gave her characters with enough emotional weight to actually show what she could do as an actress. That is what made her stand out.
Then came The Family Star and Dacoit. Neither film worked at the box office, and the momentum she had built with those first two Telugu films clearly took a hit.
Kalki 2898 AD is technically part of her Telugu filmography, but that cameo is almost negligible when looking at her career as a lead actress. There was barely any scope for her to perform.
Now comes Raaka. The Allu Arjun and Atlee film is massive, and Mrunal is reportedly playing a pivotal role in the modern-day portion. But the real question is whether the role actually gives her something to perform.
Another big film alone won’t change things. If Raaka gives Mrunal a strong character with emotional weight, it could bring her back into the Telugu heroine conversation. If it turns out to be another limited role like Kalki, the opportunity could feel wasted.
After two hits and two flops, Mrunal doesn’t just need another Telugu film. She needs the right Telugu role.
