Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s dream of building a World class capital with the assistance of Singapore architects may hit a road block with Indian Architects planning to drag Naidu’s government to courts. They are of the opinion that this act of the state government is a violation of the Architects Act, which prohibits any unregistered foreign architect.
The architects say Firms or architects dealing with any township planning have to be registered with the apex body in the country, the Council of Architecture. Foreign countries with which India has reciprocal registration will be allowed. However there is no such treaty between India and Singapore.
However it may not be difficult for a government to arm twist the rules for the convenience. Central government led by Narendra Modi may also help Andhra Pradesh government if necessary in this aspect if the issue turns to be that controversial.
