During a recent Cabinet briefing, Gujarat’s Health Minister, Rushikesh Patel, hinted at the possibility of Tesla investing in the state.

Patel expressed optimism about Elon Musk’s interest in Gujarat, highlighting the business-friendly environment and citing existing projects by car manufacturers such as Tata, Ford, and Suzuki in the region.

The latest reports indicate that India is close to reaching an agreement with Tesla, allowing the import of electric cars from 2024 and the potential establishment of a factory within two years.

Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu are being considered as potential locations due to their established ecosystems for electric vehicles.

There’s speculation about a potential announcement at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in January. However, it’s noteworthy that as of December 13, the Indian government clarified it wasn’t considering tax reductions on imported electric vehicles, a factor that had previously led to Tesla postponing its plans to sell cars in India in 2022.

The potential arrival of Tesla in Gujarat is seen as a source of pride for the locals.

However, some critics allege favoritism by Prime Minister Modi towards Gujarat, diverting prestigious projects to the state despite other regions like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana being more suitable.
