In the upcoming elections, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) is facing a potentially challenging situation in some of its strongholds in Hyderabad. Traditionally, AIMIM has dominated in seven assembly seats in Hyderabad due to the significant Muslim population in those areas. However, this time there are indications that the party may encounter tough competition in certain constituencies.
The constituencies where AIMIM is expected to face a challenging situation include Charminar, Chandrayanagutta, Yakutpura, Bahadurpura, Malakpet, Nampally, Karwan, as well as Jubilee Hills and Rajendranagar. While the party has historically won with comfortable margins, the current election dynamics suggest a more competitive scenario.
In Chandrayanagutta, AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi is contesting, and his victory is considered symbolic. The absence of a strong opponent and Akbaruddin’s leadership position in the constituency contribute to this perception.
In Charminar, the lack of a formidable candidate from Congress, coupled with AIMIM’s strong vote bank, may secure an easy victory for the party. Similarly, in Bahadurpura, the presence of a corporator as the opponent may favor AIMIM.
However, challenges are expected in Karwan and Malakpet constituencies, where strong candidates from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and BRS are contesting. AIMIM may need to work harder to secure its vote bank in these areas.
Nampally and Yakutpura constituencies are also anticipated to be contested more fiercely this time. The former mayor, Majid Hussain, is expected to contest from AIMIM in Yakutpura, adding to the competition.
The Congress, rejuvenated by its campaign efforts, aims to increase its strength compared to the last election. If voters are swayed by Congress schemes and initiatives, there is a possibility of the party gaining ground in Nampally and other constituencies traditionally held by AIMIM. The final outcome will depend on how voters respond to the campaign dynamics and the appeal of different parties in the given constituencies.
