The Rs 45,000 crore Polavaram project is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed on schedule by June 2027. Officials have confirmed that 80% of the work has already been completed.
The buttress wall has been finished, while work on the Diaphragm wall is nearing completion. The state government has set the final project deadline for end of 2027, ideally before June 2027.
The Andhra Pradesh government aims to complete the project in time for the Godavari Pushkaralu festival. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to prioritise major works, including the earth-cum-rockfill dam, and complete them by December 2027.
Specific deadlines have also been fixed for the right canal tunnel, approach channel, and head regulator. Discussions are underway regarding budget allocations for the project as well as for infrastructure improvements connected to the upcoming Pushkarams.
The government will also seek necessary permissions from the Central Water Commission and the Ministry of Jal Shakti to ensure smooth progress.
CM Chandrababu has additionally suggested developing Polavaram into a tourist destination, proposing the creation of an iconic road linking the project site to the national highway.
He has directed that CCTVs be installed throughout the project area and connected to RTGS to enable constant real-time monitoring of ongoing works.
