The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials arrested Tamil film producer and former DMK member, Jaffer Sadiq, in a drug trafficking case. He had been absconding for the last four months.
The officials stated that Sadiq was the ‘mastermind’ behind the drug trafficking between India, Australia and New Zealand. Reportedly, Sadiq smuggled drugs worth Rs. 2000 crores to Australia and New Zealand.
Sadiq’s illegal business was found out during a drug bust in Tamil Nadu. The officials caught Rs 180 crore worth of drugs in a dumping yard in Chennai and from a few railway passengers in Madurai. The authorities found out that these drugs were being smuggled to Sri Lanka.
When they dug deeper into the case, they found out about the international drug trafficking done by Jaffer Sadiq. Since then, the cops had been hunting for him.
Jaffer Sadiq produced four films in Tamil and was also an active member of the DMK Party. He was the office-bearer for the NRI wing of DMK. However, the party sacked him after the drug trafficking allegations.
