Telugu Desam Party and its allies recorded a historic victory in Andhra Pradesh. The anti-incumbency is so huge that Jagan Mohan Reddy could not even get the Opposition Status in the AP Assembly. Eighteen seats were needed for the LOP status while YSR Congress had only eleven.
The biggest danger for Jagan Mohan Reddy is not this defeat. This defeat can potentially ensure lifelong regret for Jagan.
The Delimitation of the Assembly Constituencies and Parliament Constituencies will happen before the next elections.
Chandrababu Naidu will be at an advantage in the Delimitation given he is in power in Andhra Pradesh and also has the support at the Center. It may be reminded to our readers that the NDA government reached the majority with Naidu’s 16 MP seats.
Late YS Rajashekar Reddy was at a similar advantage by winning the 2004 elections.
He was in Power when the delimitation happened in 2008. He broke several TDP strongholds and made many constituencies favorable to Congress. UPA being in power at the Center made things easy for YSR.
Now, Chandrababu Naidu is in a similar position.
TDP cadre is upbeat about it and is demanding that Pulivendula should be broken similarly or be made as a reserved constituency.
It is interesting to note that in the 2008 delimitation, YSR took away a Mandal from the Kuppam constituency and added in a neighboring constituency. Since then, Naidu’s majority has taken a hit.
