Olympic silver medal winner PV Sindhu’s position is unlike the other Olympic winners. She is the favorite baby of the two Telugu States. Hence, when the star badminton player won a silver medal for India, it is likely that both AP and Telangana Governments will not back away from rewarding prizes either in the form of cash prize or other properties.

First it was Telangana government announced 1 crore right after the game was over. Later, the AP government announced a cash prize of Rs. 3 crores and land. Now, the Telangana Government took two steps ahead by announcing Rs. 5 crores cash prize, 1000 yards land in Hyderabad and a Govt. job. Telangana Govt. also announced Rs. 1 crore to Sakshi Malik who comes from Haryana, a non-Telugu girl.
Coming to Sakshi Malik who won bronze in wrestling, she is to receive a cash prize of Rs. 2 crores as announced earlier by Haryana Govt. that a gold medal winner will receive Rs.6 crores, silver Rs. 4 crores and bronze Rs.2 crores. It’s pre-decided by the State’s policy.
But in the case of Sindhu, the amount she is going to receive was uncertain because there is no such definitive policy. More medal winners might emerge in future and hence the governments in both Telugu States need to have an amount decided for each medal a sportsman wins.
Earlier, Pullela Gopicand received 5 acres land from AP government (undivided AP) and Rs.5 crores from Nimmagadda Prasad for the construction of Badminton Academy in Gachibowli. At present, it’s raining gifts for Sindhu also!
