South India is witnessing a wave of film stars entering politics and tasting tremendous success. This recently originated with Pawan Kalyan, producing a remarkable result in the 2024 election.
This was substantiated to a large degree by Thalapathy Vijay, who became the chief minister himself in the very first election campaign in Tamil Nadu.
Now we are witnessing a similar scenario that is developing in the case of another Tamil star, and this time it is Dhanush.
The pre-release event of Dhanush’s upcoming film Om was held in Chennai today, and it had a very strong political vibe to it. There was a large crowd mobilisation outside the venue, which would replicate the vibe of a public event during a political campaign.
Even Dhanush himself carried a very political appearance here as he was seen with a white shirt and a white Lungi. This is perhaps reminiscent of his look in the upcoming days where he is increasingly likely to turn active in politics.
Dhanush had been repeatedly hinting about entering politics in the near future, and this got substantiated further with the Om event that was held in Chennai today.
There is a growing narrative that films must be steadily differentiated from politics, but this line is being often crossed these days. It appears that the cases of Pawan Kalyan and Vijay have inspired more heroes to take this path, and they are very direct with their approach as well.
