Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is finally out now in theatres. Despite not hitting a big number in advance bookings, the film has recorded a decent number on the first day, and the situation in the coming days will decide its fate.
Amid the ongoing discussions about the film’s final numbers at the box office, a few things related to the content have grabbed the attention of the audience. While this is not something that has hurt sentiments, it is clearly something that has raised a lot of questions.
The movie features a lot of female characters. However, netizens pointed out that among all of them, the women appearing on the side of Raavan, including Rakul Preet Singh and Kajal Aggarwal, have been given blouse-less outfits, and the others can be seen wearing blouses.
A few people addressed the situation by clarifying that Sai Pallavi, who plays Sita in the film, has already spoken up about revealing outfits in an interview, stating that she feels uncomfortable wearing them. Some others stated that this is a minor cinematic liberty that has to be taken, or else the movie will start getting boring for the audience.
While netizens claimed that other actresses would have looked better in the role of Sita, they said that the makers opted for Sai Pallavi since they wanted to avoid any controversy by giving blouse-less outfits to the character. A particular section claimed that Hindi films have continued a trend where the villainous characters wear revealing clothes.
Another section said that the makers have tried to portray the difference between the women in Ayodhya and the ones who were with Raavan. People wrote that the difference in the outfits proves that the danavs were progressive liberals and the manavs were regressive.
As of now, a major controversy has not erupted out of the situation. Audiences have shared mixed opinions, with a majority complaining about the visuals and the casting. Amid all of this, it remains to be seen if the discussions will anyhow contribute to attracting more audiences, making Ramayana a big blockbuster as expected.
