In a set back to Congress Party, the returning officer for Rajya Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh had confirmed that the nominations of the rebel candidates Chaitanya Raju and Adhala Prabhakar Reddy are valid and they will stand in race for Rajya Sabha seat. With this, total 8 candidates ( Congress-3, TDP-2, TRS-1 and Rebels-2) are in fray for 6 Rajya Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh. The election will take place on February 7th. Votes of 31 MLAs are required for each candidate to get hands on Rajya Sabha seat.
Earlier in the day, Congress Party had resorted to all the tricks in the trade to get the rebels nominations cancelled or withdrawn. They successfully managed to threaten some MLAs with ‘disqualification’ in case they supported MLAs. But finally Rebels were able to garner enough support before the returning officer and now their nominations are officially accepted.
