Scary: 94,399 Crore Spent Out Of Budget In AP

Andhra Pradesh budget 94,399 CroreThe CAG’s Accountant General’s Office has pointed out that Andhra Pradesh Government has spent Rs 94,399.04 crore without budget approval (provision). CAG officials have raised several objections after analyzing the total expenditure incurred in the state by the end of December in the current financial year (2021-22).

They said Andhra Pradesh is violating the provisions of the Financial Code. Rs 94,399.04 crore was spent by various government departments on almost 124 items without any budget approval. For a total of 947 items, Rs 13,398.71 crore was spent in excess of the budget allocation.

On the other hand, Rs 30,327.26 crore has been proposed to be spent under various sections but a single rupee is not spent. This happened in 2,214 items. All these amount to severe financial indiscipline and attempts to cover up that which is very scary for the state’s financial health.

The CAG has analyzed how the costs were incurred and identified several shortcomings. Referring to them, a senior official in the office of the CAG Principal Accountant General wrote a recent letter to the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh and the Ministry of Finance. It suggested that these deficiencies be rectified, remedial action taken, and report back to the CAG.
