Two men were taken into custody inside the ShowPlace, ICON theatre, 1011 S Delano Court, Chicago, following the shooting. No injuries were reported though.
The situation was scary and tense in the densely populated area of Chicago’s South Loop. The ICON movie theatre at Roosevelt and Delano Court is situated amidst restaurants, businesses, and condos. It’s one of the best premium theaters and even Telugu movies are screened in this chain though on limited screens.
According to police, there were around 700 people inside the theatre at the time of the firing.
Incidentally, two males got into a fight outside the theatre at around 7.30 pm on Saturday night. They then took the escalator and got into a physical fight. It was then that one of the males fired around six to seven shots into the air.
A video was taken by a resident in the surrounding area and the two suspects have been taken into custody. However, they haven’t been charged as yet. Meanwhile, the theatre staff ensured those in the theatre were in a safe space when the event occurred. However, they were told to collect their belongings on Sunday.
For now, the theatre remains closed.
