
One of India’s top tech companies, TCS, has issued new directives regarding the bench period. The new policy is being implemented from June 12.
It has decided that every employee must work for 225 billed business days. The days on bench have been limited to 35 days.

In a story by Times of India, it has been mentioned that the decision was taken to reduce the time of employees not working and maximize the utilization of workforce.
In an IT firm, billed days are when the employee works on a client’s project. This means an employee will have to work on any project for 225 days. The time when the employee has no work is called bench period.

The latest policy has suggested that an employee can remain without job for 35 days. Otherwise, it will have an impact on their perks, career progress and their work life, the policy says.
The resource management group (RMG) in TCS looks after who gets which project. The RMG abides by the guidelines given by TCS global head Chandrasekharan Ramkumar. The employee has to coordinate with regional RMG or unit for regular work flow, according to new policy.

Those on the bench must make use of IAValve, FrescoPlay, VLS, LinkedIn and upgrade their skills, while on bench. They have to attend sessions suggested by RMG. Those on bench attending office is mandatory.
There won’t be any work from office discounts or flexi timings applicable. The policy also says that TCS is liable to take disciplinary action if an employee is on the bench for long.
