The newly elected TDP Rajya Sabha MP, TG Venkatesh had given a Master Plan to his former party, Congress to prove its commitment to Special Status to Andhra Pradesh. TG asked Congress to serve an ultimatum to BJP that it will help GST Bill to pass, if Special Status is granted to the truncated State.

TG alleged that this Private Member Bill is a cheap tactic by Congress to impress the people of the state so that it can make a comeback. “If Congress is committed enough, it would have placed that in the bill and all this mess would not happen,” TG Venkatesh opined stating that TDP will vote in favour of the bill.
The then outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made an announcement in Parliament promising 5 Years of Special Status to Andhra Pradesh. BJP back then demanded for 10 Years and promised to give that once they are in Power. But they have been refusing it citing technical terms and a sentiment is being built up against BJP for going back on the promise.
