The BRS party received a boost when the Central government announced the actual debt accrued by KCR’s government during its 10-year rule. The figures were revealed after BJP Telangana MP Raghunandan Rao raised questions in Lok Sabha seeking clarity on BRS debts.
Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary responded that the total debt by the end of BRS rule stood at Rs 2,80,916 crore. This amount is significantly lower than the claims made by the present Telangana CM Revanth Reddy.
Revanth Reddy had claimed a debt of Rs 6 lakh crore rising to Rs 8 lakh crore. With the Central government’s clarification, BRS leaders, especially working president KTR, are jubilant.
The Centre clarified that the KCR government invested the loans in appropriate sectors and built wealth in Telangana. Raghunandan Rao had asked about the yearly loans procured from 2014, their sources, and usage.
The reply was seen as a setback for the Revanth Reddy government. BRS now points out that the Telangana Congress took loans of Rs 2.17 lakh crore in just 20 months. BRS leaders question how this money was spent since the Congress government did not build projects like Kaleshwaram or launch schemes such as Dalit Bandhu.
They calculated that in 610 days, the Revanth Reddy government added a debt burden of Rs 355.73 crore per day, which is about Rs 15 crore per hour on Telangana’s people.
These statistics are expected to be used by BRS during the upcoming local body elections.
