Telangana Government has taken a radical decision to cleanse the Revenue Department which is known to be an epitome of Corruption among all the Government Departments. The State Government abolished the VRO system in the revenue department and ordered all Village Revenue Officers (VROs) across the state to hand over the records to the district collector by this evening 5 PM.
Due to this move, all land registration in Telangana state will be stopped from tomorrow until further notice. Those who already purchased stamps will be allowed to finish their registrations today. We daily hear news of VROs indulging in massive corruption and harassing the farmers even for small things like Pattadar Passbooks.
There is no clarity about what the Government will do with the VROs right now. The Government should also take enough steps to ensure that the transition from the old model to the new model should not be disruptive as that will create so much of a mess stalling the land deals which will also result in the revenue shortfall for the Government during the Corona Crisis.
Interestingly, this move has come at a time when the Telangana Assembly sat for a session.
