Six New Skywalks in Busy Areas: Hyderabad

Telangana government new skywalk plans

The Telangana government has decided to construct six new skywalks in response to growing traffic congestion and the challenges faced by pedestrians in crossing busy roads. The move aims to enhance public safety and convenience in Hyderabad’s high-traffic areas.

According to officials, the six skywalks will be developed in different parts of Greater Hyderabad. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has been instructed to prepare detailed project plans for locations including Afzalgunj, Madina, Lakdikapul petrol bunk, BHEL, JNTU, and Miyapur T Junction.

These areas have been identified as accident-prone zones with heavy pedestrian and vehicular movement. The proposed skywalks are expected to provide a safer option for commuters while easing road congestion.

HMDA officials noted that the skywalk in Uppal has already delivered positive results by improving pedestrian movement and traffic flow. Meanwhile, the Mehdipatnam skywalk is gaining momentum, and the one in Secunderabad currently under construction will connect the bus stand, railway station, and metro station.

A survey by LEE Associates identified 23 key locations across Hyderabad where new skywalks are required to ensure safe and efficient pedestrian access.
