Telangana’s New Secretariat: Specialities!

BR Ambedkar Secretariat Today, Dr. BR Ambedkar Secretariat has been inaugurated in Hyderabad by Telangana Chief Minister KCR after entering the building through the east gate. The foundation was laid in 2019 and the state-of-the-art building has been designed by renowned Chennai-based architects Ponni Concessao and Oscar Concessao.

The six-floor building housing 635 rooms has been built by Shapoorji Pallonji Pvt Ltd company. The new Secretariat is unique in the sense that it is the first state secretariat to be named after Dr. B R Ambedkar. It was built in a record 26 months.

The entry into the Secretariat will be through smart cards and ample provision has been made for cabins and conference halls. The entire building cost the state government a whopping Rs 617 crore. The sprawling building which stands on the same space where the old secretariat stood has been built on 28 acres.

Behind the Secretariat, there is another building that houses the employees’ association office, indoor games area, and housing society office. A temple and mosque have been built within the complex. On the sixth floor, between the domes, two floors measuring up to 4500 sq ft have been constructed which will be used during VIP, and VVIP visits. Here, one can also find lavish dining halls built in Nizami style.

Another salient feature is that the Secretariat has four entries and the CM along with CS, DGP, ministers and other public representatives will enter through the east gate, while other gates will be used by Secretariat employees, visitors, and during emergency situations.

The CM’s cabin has been built with pure white marble and a separate hall has been built for the CM to conduct Praja Darbar.
