Tesla has officially opened its first showroom in India today, in Mumbai’s BKC area. There’s huge excitement among fans, and Elon Musk’s name is now more popular than ever in the country.
But the price? It’s a shock for many.
In the U.S., the Tesla Model Y starts at around $45,000 (about ₹33 lakh).
In India, the same car starts at ₹60 lakh (about $60,000), and goes up to ₹70 lakh after taxes and fees.
Why the big difference?
India charges heavy import taxes on foreign cars—up to 100%. Since Tesla isn’t making the cars in India yet, the prices are much higher.
Still, people are excited.
Many see Tesla as more than just a car—it’s a symbol of tech, status, and the future. Even with the high price, demand could surprise everyone.
Elon Musk might just be on his way to becoming a household name in India.
