Some political timelines are just numbers. This one carries a lot more weight.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay brought up 1967, 1977, 1982 and 2026 in the Assembly today, connecting them with Anna, MGR, NTR and himself.
In 1967, C.N. Annadurai led the DMK to power in Tamil Nadu. In 1977, M.G. Ramachandran brought the AIADMK to power. In 1982, N.T. Rama Rao launched the Telugu Desam Party and went on to become Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister.
And now, Vijay has added 2026 to that list.
The cinema connection makes the reference even more interesting. MGR, NTR and Vijay came into politics with enormous fan bases built through films and tried to turn that popularity into political power.
Vijay knows the names he has put together are not ordinary ones. Anna. MGR. NTR. Vijay.
Whether his journey eventually reaches the heights of those leaders is a question for the future. But by putting his name alongside theirs today, Vijay has made one thing clear – he sees 2026 as the beginning of something much bigger.
