There are allegations that efforts are being made to keep the sand business in Andhra Pradesh under wraps, possibly involving the Adani company. The Adani Group and Tamil Nadu’s SR Group are two of the companies that submitted bids in the sand tender. However, it’s unclear whether Adani directly participated in the bidding, or if it was done through entities like Puri Natural Resources Limited and Alluvial Heavy Minerals.
The bid submission deadline was on the 6th of this month, and technical bids were opened on the same day. Nevertheless, the Jagan government has maintained complete secrecy by not disclosing which companies participated in the tenders.
The Department of Mines has not provided any information and has kept the process confidential, despite claims of transparency in the sand tenders. The situation garnered attention when it was brought to light that whoever secures the sand tender may be linked to the CM’s brother, YS Anil Reddy.
In response, the TDP made allegations that the tender reserve prices were reduced. The Director of Mines subsequently issued a press release, asserting that the tenders were being conducted transparently under the oversight of a central organization.
However, despite claims of transparency, the Department of Mines has not disclosed how many companies participated in the tenders, raising concerns about the lack of transparency. There are rumors that regardless of the tender outcome, CM’s brother YS Anil Reddy may be involved in running the sand business behind the scenes.
In this context, it’s suggested that top officials of the mines department are trying to prevent the names of bidding companies and other related information from becoming public. It’s also alleged that YS Anil Reddy may distribute sand mining contracts on a district-wise basis, irrespective of the tender results.
