Will Modi Contest From Tamil Nadu This Time?

Narendra ModiBJP leadership, after facing a defeat in Karnataka, has shifted its focus to South India. With the aim of forming the government for a third term, the party is making efforts to win a significant number of seats from the southern states.

However, the BJP faces challenges in the region due to the presence of numerous regional parties and a relatively lower number of people aligning with the party.

Additionally, the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu has severed ties with the BJP. To regain the image that suffered after the defeat in Karnataka, it is reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is considering contesting from Tamil Nadu instead of Varanasi, where he previously contested and won.

The idea is that Modi’s presence and campaign in Tamil Nadu could potentially help the BJP win more seats in the state, similar to the impact he had in Uttar Pradesh. Furthermore, there are reports that the BJP leadership is planning to field Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who has been a Rajya Sabha MP, from the Madurai parliamentary constituency in Tamil Nadu.

Home Minister Amit Shah recently made a statement highlighting that no Prime Minister has come from Tamil Nadu, which is interpreted as a strategic move by the BJP. It is mentioned that the BJP’s intention behind this statement and Modi’s potential candidacy in Tamil Nadu is to make inroads into the state and overcome the challenges faced by the party, including the Tamil people’s concerns about the promotion of Hindi and the desire to protect their language and culture.
