Can you imagine not having a bath for a year? However, there is a man from Iran who had not bathed for over 50 years. He was called the dirtiest man alive on Earth. But, in a tryst of the irony of fate, taking a bath cost him his life. Well, at least that was the price he had to pay when the villagers at his place decided to give him a bath.
Amou Haji was labeled the dirtiest man, not just in Iran, but in the entire world. Amou Haji hails from the village of Dejgah and is said to have not taken a shower for decades. Though Amou Haji was not his real name, it was a nickname given to elders in that part of the world.
Initially, Amou Haji would sleep in a hole in the ground, but the villagers built him a mud hut. The situation was such that Amou Haji would not eat fresh food and instead ate rotted porcupines and smoked a pipe of animal excrement. After fearing that they would get sick because of him, they gave him a shower and that spelled death for 94-yr-old Haji. Many say that his condition was due to some emotional setbacks during his youth.
Ironically, a documentary was made on Haji called ‘The Strange Life of Amou Haji’ in 2013.
