What Is the Film About?
Madhi and Ramya get married after a chance, accidental interaction under unusual circumstances. However, things between Madhi (Priyadarshi) and Ramya (Anandhi) slowly change as the honeymoon period comes to an end chiefly due to the impending house loan clearance on Madhi’s mind.
It leads to a faceoff between Madhi and Ramya revealing a big twist. What’s the twist? The basic plot is how the couple continue with their life after the big revelation.
All this while Head Constable Asha Mary is looking for her first case and also managing a divorce issue. How these different tracks come together form the overall plot.

Performances
Priyadarshi is reliable as usual playing a character that suits his personality. It is grounded and follows the typical dramatic patterns we generally associate with the actor. There is hardly surprise in this space and the act.
The second half offers Priyadarshi some scope to go beyond the one-note act, and he is okay in those, barring a wide-eyed bit which sticks out.
Anandhi, on the other hand, has a very loud character, especially in the first half. The way the scenes and interaction between her and Priyadarshi play out, things feel irritating. She has energy, but it’s not efficiently translated on screen via the performance during this hour.
But the character settles well in the second half, taking charge of the proceedings. Ramya easily shines in the key dramatic moments. It’s nothing memorable, but given how things were around the intermission point, the ending feels decent.
Analysis
Madhusudan directs Premante. It falls in the quirky entertainer zone which has been picked frequently by Priyadarshi.
The problem with the movie becomes evident right from the start. It lies in the execution. Take the opening block itself for example. The sequence had potential to begin things on exciting note, but one feels bored and drained by the time it ends. And it’s just the beginning.
Luckily, the subsequent portions don’t get that boring, but they offer nothing new. They lack the freshness that the beginning had.
The subplot further adds to the poor execution feeling as they miss the punch even though the actors try their best to manage.
The first half is further impacted by the execution of two key blocks that involve the revelation of the key twist and then its follow-up. The way the story turns is executed is extremely irritating. One gets the intended effect, but the final outcome is far from satisfactory.
Story-wise, the interval offers something to chew on. One looks forward to seeing where things might be headed after the main plot is out.
The second half gets the tone right which is a relief from the start. It wasn’t the case earlier which further increased the woes. The narrative still misses the proper energy, but things flow neatly.
It’s around the hour mark that, finally, a couple of well-placed scenes and dramatic moments manage to hold attention. The drama that follows is decent and things end on a predictable but okay note.
Overall, Premante has a decent, quirky plot, but the chaotic and lackluster first half almost kills the interest. The second half offers some respite, but it’s not enough and ends up testing your patience.
Performances by Others Actors
Apart from the lead pair, there is a friends batch and another one involves the police setup where Suma plays a key role, along with Vennela Kishore, Hyper Aadhi and others.
There are some decent one-liners and funny banters between Suma and Vennela Kishore, but they are few. They play off each other well which is the reason for the same.
Music and Other Departments?
The songs don’t register. The background score has some moments, but there is hardly anything memorable. The cinematography is okay. The editing gives a patchy feel at the start, but it is better as things move forward. The writing is mostly weak, barring a few one-liners here and there.
