80s Trend Backfires: Woman Thief Trapped After 45 Years

80s trend helps crack old theft case

The viral 80s trend on social media has reportedly helped police crack a 45-year-old theft case in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain.

Around 45 years ago, a woman allegedly stole a necklace from a jewelry shop in Ujjain. She later changed her name and moved away, living under a different identity for decades. With no major breakthrough in the case, the theft eventually became an old forgotten story.

Then came a viral social media trend.

The woman reportedly joined the 80s trend and posted her own picture after giving it a retro 1980s look. She probably had no idea that the simple social media post could bring her old case back.

The jewelry shop owner reportedly came across the picture and immediately recognized her as the woman who had allegedly stolen the necklace from his shop 45 years ago. He approached the police and identified her.

Police then reportedly reopened the old case and started investigating the woman. During questioning, she allegedly admitted that she had committed the theft. After hiding her identity for nearly five decades, the woman was reportedly caught because of a picture she voluntarily posted online.

The incident is a perfect example of how social media can sometimes expose people in unexpected ways. The woman may have believed that her old identity was long forgotten. But the shop owner had not forgotten the face connected to the theft.
