Hyderabad has recently emerged as a hotspot for road accidents, with incidents frequently reported from various parts of the city. The primary causes of these accidents include overspeeding, drunk driving, and reckless driving.

It has now been revealed that Hyderabad recorded the highest number of car accidents among metro cities in India. According to Acko’s Accident Index 2024, Hyderabad ranks first in the number of car accidents. It is followed by Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, and Ahmedabad.

In 2022, Delhi held the top position, but Hyderabad has now overtaken it. Interestingly, Hyderabad has 46% fewer cars than Delhi, yet it recorded more accidents in the last two years.

Within Hyderabad, the Miyapur area ranks highest in terms of the likelihood of accidents. On a national level, Miyapur ranks sixth among the areas most prone to accidents. The top five areas are Bengaluru’s Bommanahalli, Delhi’s Noida, Pune’s Marunji, Mumbai’s Mira Road, and Chennai’s Medavakkam.

The report indicates that 78% of road accidents in the country occur in metro cities. Meanwhile, 45% of accidents in Bengaluru, 13% in Delhi, and 12% in Mumbai occur to potholes.




Regarding accidents caused by animals, 62% are due to dogs, 29% to cows, 4% to buffaloes, 3% to monkeys, and 1% to goats.
