Gutkha Turns Deadly: Woman Poisons Family, 3 Dead

Chitrakoot gutkha poisoning tragedy

A tragic case from Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh has shocked many after a woman poisoned herself and her three children following a quarrel with her husband over money for gutkha. Two children and the woman died, while one child remains in critical condition.

Police said Jyoti Yadav, 26, was addicted to gutkha and demanded money from her husband, Babbu Yadav, a driver. When he refused on Saturday, she allegedly consumed poison and forced it upon her three children, leading to the horrific outcome.

When Babbu returned home, he found his four-year-old son in pain, saying his mother had given him something bitter. His one-year-old daughter Bulbul was already dead, while Jyoti and the other two children lay unconscious.

They were rushed to the Majhgawan Community Health Centre, where doctors declared Bulbul dead. The others were referred to Satna District Hospital, but Jyoti and her four-year-old daughter Chandrama died on the way. Only five-year-old Deepchand survived but remains critical.

Relatives and neighbours revealed that Jyoti’s addiction often caused disputes at home. Her husband had repeatedly tried to stop her, fearing the effect on their children. Majhgawan Block Medical Officer Dr. Rupesh Soni confirmed poisoning symptoms were evident when the family was admitted.

The heartbreaking incident has left the community shaken, showing how addiction and domestic conflicts can turn deadly, leaving behind unimaginable loss and pain for families and survivors.
