A tragic incident occurred during the All India Inter-University Wushu Championship at Chandigarh University, where Mohit Sharma, a Wushu player from Rajasthan University, collapsed and died during a match.
Competing in the 85 kg category, he suddenly fell to the mat after an intense exchange with his opponent.
According to reports, Mohit suffered a cardiac arrest, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after a postmortem examination. Witnesses stated that he had been attempting to return to the mat after being thrown out of the bout zone.
The referee and officials immediately rushed to his aid, but he remained unresponsive. He was quickly taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Mohit was a student at Vivek PG College in Kalwar, Jaipur. Rajasthan University Sports Board Secretary Pramod Singh confirmed his passing. Meanwhile, officials associated with his selection and training, including Rajasthan Wushu Association President Heeranand Kataria and Coach Rajesh Taylor, have not made any public statements.
A video of the match has surfaced, capturing the moment when Mohit collapsed. The footage shows referees and medical staff attempting to revive him before rushing him to the hospital.
Authorities have informed his family, and further investigations are underway as questions remain regarding the circumstances leading to his collapse.
