The internet always finds a way to surprise people, and every few days a new viral moment takes over. This week, a post on X (formerly Twitter) caught everyone’s attention after claiming that India is now ranked second in the world for office romances.
A quick look into the claim shows that it is actually true. According to a recent international study by Ashley Madison, carried out with YouGov across 11 countries, India ranks second for people who admitted to having had or currently being in a workplace romance. Mexico stands at the top of the list, with India close behind.
The study highlights how common workplace relationships are in India, even as offices increasingly focus on professional boundaries and conduct. It also reveals that four in ten Indians in the general population have either dated or are currently dating a colleague.
But what made the post go viral was not just the data. It was the picture used in the background. The image was a still from the 2004 film Aitraaz, showing a very uncomfortable Akshay Kumar being seduced by Priyanka Chopra. The choice instantly sparked laughter online.
Some users said the photo had no connection to the news, while others argued it fit perfectly because Aitraaz dealt with workplace harassment. While the data focused on workplace relationships, the image reminded viewers that harassment is also a serious issue at workplaces.
The striking visual made people stop scrolling, notice the expressions of both actors, and spend more time reading the information. For many, the clever use of the picture felt deliberate and smart, adding extra punch to the viral post.
