Millions of admirers were grieving when Punjabi singer-rapper Sidhu Moose Wala was killed in a gunfight on May 29, last year. Moose Wala quickly rose to prominence as a musical legend, releasing hundreds of chart-topping singles. Even after his death, his songs have been released to great acclaim.
While his death at the age of 28 left a void in the Punjabi music business, a man from the United States astonished music fans by recording song covers of Moose Wala using his AI voice. Amarjit Singh, alias MRA, is a software engineer located in the United States who has used Moose Wala’s voice generated using the artificial intelligence software Stable Diffusion to create various songs.
From performing Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s ‘Tumhe Dillagi’ to Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Born to Shine,’ the voices sound just like Moose Wala and give listeners shivers.
The sound of Moose Wala singing legendary songs like Gurdas Maan’s ‘Challa’ or Surjit Bindrakhiya’s ‘Tera Yaar Bolda’ has no doubt captured the attention of listeners. However, utilizing a deceased singer’s voice to recreate songs creates ethical concerns. Amarjit has now chosen not to release future tracks with Moose Wala’s voice to respect the desires of his family.
