The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been under a lot of controversies even before the tournament saw the light of day.
With Pakistan hosting an ICC tournament after such a long time, all eyes were on them to get their infrastructure ready before the due dates, a task in which they failed not once, but multiple times.

On top of that, the Government of India’s strict policy to not let the Indian team travel to Pakistan had led to a huge uproar, with many pointing out the unfairness of the situation.
The situation got worse when it was announced that the Men in Blue would play all their matches at one venue in Dubai.

Several past and present players criticized ICC’s decision, saying that it gave a massive ‘home advantage’ to India, evident from the sheer dominance of spinners in the team.
Team India making its way to the finals was like rubbing salt on the wounds, as the final completely slipped away from Pakistan’s grip, and is now scheduled to be held in Dubai on March 9th, 2025.

This was further topped by very few people showing up to watch the South Africa vs New Zealand semi-final in Lahore.
With so many disasters creating a deep divide in the cricket world, maybe it’s better to call it the ICC Controversial Trophy instead!
