The BCCI has named former India spinner Pragyan Ojha as the chairman of the men’s selection committee, replacing Ajit Agarkar.
The board has also appointed former India spinner Ramesh Powar to the five member panel following a recommendation from the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC).
The CAC, comprising Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape, unanimously recommended Powar after screening and interviewing applicants at the BCCI headquarters. Ojha will chair the committee based on seniority in terms of Test appearances.
The new men’s selection committee comprises Pragyan Ojha (Chairperson), Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra and Ramesh Powar.
Ramesh Powar represented India in two Tests and 31 ODIs during his playing career. He later coached the Indian women’s team and also worked with Mumbai and Gujarat.
He has also served as a bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. During his stint as head coach of the women’s team, India won the Asia Cup and secured a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Agarkar took over as chairman of the men’s selection committee in July 2023. During his tenure, India won three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup titles and back to back gold medals at the Asian Games.
The BCCI acknowledged Agarkar’s contribution to Indian cricket during his tenure as chairman.
With Pragyan Ojha now leading the panel and Powar joining as a selector, the committee will continue to oversee the selection of India’s men’s teams across formats.
