SRH Star Ruled Out: Door Opens for Vaibhav Now?

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may get India T20I chance

Ishan Kishan‘s injury has created a playing opportunity for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ahead of the second T20I against New Zealand.

Ishan has been ruled out of the second T20I due to a low grade right adductor strain sustained during the first match. The BCCI confirmed on Friday and said its medical team would continue to monitor his progress.

Ishan’s absence could also give the Indian team management a chance to reconsider its batting order.

In the first T20I, Tilak Varma was sent at No. 3 instead of Ishan, but he struggled to score six runs off 11 balls. With Ishan unavailable for the next match, India could consider bringing Vaibhav into the XI.

Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has also identified the teenager as a strong contender.

Speaking to media, Sitanshu Kotak said Vaibhav could step in if Ishan was unable to play, although the final decision would depend on the medical team’s advice and the team’s selection plans.

India captain Shreyas Iyer had earlier indicated that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was unlikely to open while Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma continued to score runs. Despite, Ishan’s injury has changed the situation and given the team another option to consider.

Vaibhav’s inclusion is not confirmed yet, but the second T20I could provide an opportunity.

The team management must now decide whether to stick with its existing combination or give the teenager his chance.
