Some Kollywood audiences feel that Mani Ratnam used Trisha’s character merely as a showcase in Thug Life, as it has no impact on the core plot of the movie.
Even though the characterization is very new to Tamil cinema, it doesn’t properly convey what Mani Ratnam planned for the character within the core drama of the movie.

At the same time, some people are criticizing Trisha for her acting performance in the ‘Sugar Baby’ role in Thug Life, as people feel that her character may be perceived in a wrong way, as a more sexual character, since Mani Ratnam doesn’t have a proper arc for that character and what he tried to convey with it is not clear.
Also, Mani Ratnam should have worked more on the emotional aspects of the movie than creating new relationship dynamics in Thug Life, as even the basic emotions don’t work well, which is a major reason for the movie’s failure, say some netizens.
