Kollywood actor Vishal, who is making his directorial debut with Magudam, has landed in serious financial trouble. A legal case involving Lyca Productions has taken an unfavourable turn for the actor.
A few years ago, Vishal reportedly took a loan of Rs 15 crores from financier Anbu Chezhiyan. Unable to repay the amount, he faced mounting pressure. At that stage, Lyca Productions stepped in and cleared Vishal’s debt to the financier.
In return, Vishal reportedly agreed to allow Lyca Productions to claim profits from his films until the full amount was repaid. However, the agreement allegedly was not honoured. Lyca Productions claimed that they were not allowed to recover their share from the actor’s film revenues.
As a result, Lyca Productions filed a case against Vishal in the Madras High Court in 2021. The production house stated that the original amount had doubled due to interest and now stood at Rs 30.05 crores.
Initially, the court granted Vishal interim relief. However, after multiple hearings, the Madras High Court recently ordered the actor to deposit Rs 10 crores to Lyca Productions without delay.
The ruling also allows Lyca Productions to stall the release of Vishal’s films until the remaining dues are cleared. This means Vishal cannot sell or release his projects without the production house’s approval and financial settlement.
The judgment has sparked strong reactions online. Many netizens pointed out that Lyca Productions is itself going through a difficult phase, with several recent releases turning into major box office failures. In this context, some believe Vishal’s non-payment has added to their troubles.
For now, uncertainty surrounds Vishal’s upcoming films. It remains to be seen whether he resolves the financial dispute quickly or if the legal battle will impact the release of his future projects.
