The weekly flight began on August 9, 2025, using Envoy Air’s Embraer E175s. Covering 1,438 nautical miles or 2,663 kilometres, it has become the longest RJ route in American Airlines’ history by distance, although some routes still have longer block times.

Role of regional jets in network

Data from Cirium reveals that regional jets remain central to American’s operations. More than 2,900 RJ movements are scheduled for August 2025, accounting for nearly half of the airline’s flights. These services link over 240 airports across 670 different routes.

Dallas hub operations

Dallas/Fort Worth, American’s busiest hub overall, also leads in regional jet traffic. In August 2025 alone, the airport is expected to handle 681 daily RJ movements under American Eagle, reinforcing its role as the backbone of the carrier’s hub network.

Québec City connections

With the Dallas service, American Airlines now operates four routes to Québec City, alongside Charlotte, Chicago and Philadelphia. This makes American the dominant U.S. airline at the Canadian airport, giving travellers more direct connectivity from multiple American hubs.

Importance of regional jets

Although some RJ services have been replaced by larger aircraft for efficiency, the Dallas–Québec City link proves their continuing relevance. Regional jets still provide flexibility and reach, allowing American Airlines to strengthen its presence across North America’s diverse markets.
