The two-day closure of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu disrupted public life, following civil unrest and a nationwide curfew triggered by political instability in Nepal.
Indian Airlines Resume Operations Swiftly
Indian carriers resumed services on 10 September 2025. Air India and IndiGo had earlier cancelled several flights on 9 and 10 September, leaving many passengers stranded in Nepal.
Repatriation Efforts Begin
With the airport reopening at 3:30 PM local time, both airlines started repatriation operations to bring back affected travellers. This move was welcomed by those stuck in Kathmandu.
Extra Flights and Special Services
Air India operated special flights from Delhi to Kathmandu. IndiGo restarted its regular services and added more flights in the coming days to handle the demand.
Government Coordination for Relief
India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation is working closely with the airlines to ensure affordable fares and maximum seat availability for stranded passengers.
Flexible Options from Air India Express
Air India Express also stepped up by offering flexibility for tickets booked until 17 September. Travellers can choose free rescheduling or claim full refunds, easing uncertainty.
Hope Amidst Ongoing Tensions
While the political situation in Nepal remains unstable, the efforts made by Indian airlines and authorities are providing timely relief to hundreds of travellers caught in the crisis.
