$22 M Jacksonville Scam: Indian Gets Jailed

Amit Patel

Amit Patel, a former employee of the Jacksonville Jaguars, an American football team, was accused of stealing $22 million from the team between 2019 and 2023.

Patel, of Indian origin, managed the club’s finances and allegedly misused a virtual credit card program, inflating bills for expenses like catering and flights. He was fired in February 2023.

Patel reportedly used the stolen money for a lavish lifestyle, buying expensive items and indulging in gambling. He faces charges of wire fraud and illegal money transactions.

Latest reports state that Patel, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison and ordered to pay $21.1 million in restitution.

He admitted to his actions, expressed remorse, and claimed to have been sober for nearly a year, seeking help for his gambling addiction.

Patel manipulated the team’s credit card program to commit fraud, diverting funds for personal use.

While his lawyers argue that most of the money fueled his gambling habit, the Jaguars clarified that no other team members were involved or aware of Patel’s actions.
