New year is the time for the King of the United Kingdom to honour its citizens who have done exemplary work in their field. The 2024 New Year’s Honours List was released on Friday evening in London. The list features nearly 30 citizens of Indian origin coming from various professions.
The awardees will be receiving the honour of Knighthood from King Charles III. A total of 1200 Britishers will be receiving the honour for their selfless service to the country. The honour system in the UK is one of the oldest in the world.
Among the Indians receiving the honour, there are healthcare professionals, philanthropists, community activists and professors. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called them the ‘pride’ of the country.
Dr Chandra Mohan Kanneganti will be receiving the Commandment of the British Empire(CBE). Baldev Parkash Bhardwaj, Dr Dipankar Datta, Dr Shriti Pattani, Munir Patel will be getting the OBEs.
The list has been released by the cabinet office in the name of the British Monarch. The inclusion of many people of Indian origin is a strong suggestion of the growing foothold of the community in the country.
