The city of Brampton in Canada is set to have a new Hindu place of worship next year. The construction work for a 55 feet tall Hanuman statue is in its final stage at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton. The statue is going to be unveiled in April next year as it coincides with Hanuman Jayanti. However there are many complaints regarding the installation of this statue in Brampton.
The work on the statue is 95 percent over with only some finishing touch left to give. However, the priest of the temple has acknowledged there have been complaints as few people are dissatisfied by the statue. The security in the temple premises has been increased.
There is an increase in anti-immigration sentiments in the region because of the statue. Many Canadians expressed their hinduphobic views by commenting derogatory remarks about Hindu gods. A user on the internet asked for an immediate halt on all immigration in Canada.
Brampton is also famous for being the stirring pot for the Pro-khalistan movement. Earlier, the Indian diplomats were targeted at the Bharat Mata temple in Mississauga.
The statue has been constructed by the money collected via donations from individuals and groups. It will be inaugurated on 23rd April 2024.
