The Trump Administration’s recent brutal crackdown on illegal immigration has led to many Indians who crossed the border into the US illegally being deported back to India; hands tied, legs restrained.
However, it is seemingly becoming hard for Indians to show any kind of sympathy for the deportees because of the strange demands being made by them and their families.

The families of many deportees are demanding that the Indian government waive off their existing loans and give them government jobs, sparking outrage around the internet.
Social media has been filled with comments from users who are expressing their views on this matter.

One user said, “They broke the law by entering another country illegally, and now they expect rewards back home? This is outrageous!”
Another commented, “Instead of demanding loan waivers and jobs, they should be held accountable for their actions. This sets a bad precedent.”

Some also took a more satirical approach to the whole situation.
One user wrote, “Maybe I should try getting deported to get my loans waived off too. Seems like a new strategy!”
Another remarked, “Next time I miss a loan payment, I’ll just tell the bank I’m waiting for my government job after deportation.”
While the public is right in its perspective, it is also true that a lack of opportunities in India is what forced these people to take this deadly route to the US, risking their lives and abandoning their motherland for some faraway nation.
Instead of using it as a PR opportunity, the Indian government should work to ensure that incidents like this do not happen in the future, that our people are able to work in India without having to risk their lives and dignity in some faraway place.
