Imagine spending millions on your degree only to find out it is not even valid in your country. The lucrative dream of attaining a foreign degree has landed hundreds of students in India in such a situation. The University Grants Commission has said that degrees issued by institutes not recognised will not be valid in India and this has pushed many students to the doors of court.
Students enrolled in a business school in Karjat are the prime victims of the scam. The college offered a UK University degree to students without any need to ever travel to the UK or interact with any faculty at the UK campus. The students were never made to give any assessments from the university that offered the degree.
The whole concept of the programme is to provide the students the name of a foreign university on their degree without ever stepping out of the country. A Bangalore based college is also involved in providing similar degrees to students.
The UGC made a point that the employer would never know that the students never really studied at the university. Students from other countries like Nepal and Poland have also found themselves duped by these colleges.
